Hüseyin Erkan is Currently an Advisor to the Board of Commissioners at CMA, providing high-level expertise in capital markets and exchanges in particular. Among his fields of expertise are; international capital market regulation, market structures, exchange traded equity, fixed income and derivative instruments; post trade services including clearing and settlement, risk management and collateralization; indices, index based products and ETFs; public offerings (IPOs), cross border listings, depository receipts and cross border cooperation of exchanges with the aim of creating a regional trading platform and/or a common list of tradable securities and indices. 
He was the Chief Executive Officer of the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) between June 2012 and October 2014, responsible for the daily operations of the Federation with 64 member exchanges from all around the world. His role included the development of advocacy activities vis-a-vis the regulators and policy makers via policy papers and active participation in debates; encouragement of cooperation among its members; publishing the statistics of the members and maintaining a reliable database; organizing industry events and capacity building workshops and engaging with the industry stakeholders as well as the financial media.
Hüseyin Erkan carried out and led inspections of numerous candidate exchanges for full membership to WFE including Tadawul.
Prior to joining the WFE, Hüseyin was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Istanbul Stock Exchange (ISE) between November 2007 and end of 2011, responsible for the daily operations of the Exchange, new market introductions such as the Warrants Market and the Emerging Companies Market (an SME market), developing new market projects such as Stock Repos, Stock Futures and Options; numerous new domestic and regional indices including corporate governance index and the preliminary work for a sustainability index; regional cooperation projects such as order routing amongst the exchanges of the region; linking the ISE with major exchanges in the world thus trying to create a regional hub and further development of the Federation of Euro-Asian Stock Exchanges as its President.
He was a signatory, as the Chairman and CEO of ISE, to UN PRI and Global Compact as well as the Sustainable Stock Exchanges Initiative. He was also the founding Chairman of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Stock Exchanges Forum, which carried out work on cooperation amongst the member exchanges and created Islamic indices in cooperation with a prominent Index provider. Initiated the work to structure some Islamic securities such as Sukuk repos to be traded on member exchanges.
During his tenure at the Istanbul Stock Exchange between 2007 and 2011, he was the Chairman of the Board of Takasbank, the CSD and the clearing and settlement bank of Turkey, in addition to being the President of the Federation of Euro-Asian Stock Exchanges that he helped build all throughout his career at the ISE.
Huseyin Erkan graduated from New York University Stern School of Business with a B.S joint degree in Economics and International Business (1981) and an MBA in the fields of International Business and Finance (1984) with a thesis project on currency risk management at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
